Something for Women

A little food for the spirit and a gentle pat on the back, just because you are woman…a little celebration

“Women have a way of treating people more softly.  We treat souls with kid gloves”….Shirley Caesar.

“ I say if its going to be done, let’s do it. Let’s not put it in the hands of fate. Let’s not put it in the hands of someone who doesn’t know me. I know me best. Then take a breath and go ahead……….Anita Baker

Challenges make you discover things about yourself that you never really knew. They’re what make the instrument stretch- what make you go beyond the norm…   Cicely Tyson

The cock croweth but the hen delivereth the goods…anonymous

“I myself have never been able to find out precisely what feminism is: I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat”……Rebecca West. (1892 - 1983)

Supposing  you have tried and failed again and again.  You may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing we call ‘ failure ‘ is not the falling down, but the staying down…..Mary Pickford

If I had to live my life over again, I’d dare to make more mistakes next time……Nadine Star

It occured to me when I was thirteen and wearing white gloves and Mary Janes and going to dancing school, that no one should have to dance backward all their lives……..Jill Ruckelshaus.

Once you live with the issue of women and the landscape for a while, you find that you cannot separate them form the notions of peace, spirituality and community.  As women we must learn to become leaders in society, not just for our own sake, but for the sake of all people.  We must support and protect our kinship with the environment for the generations to come….China Galland

” Ive got the woman’s ability to stick to a job and get on with it when everyone else walks off and leaves it”……Margaret Thatcher.

The genius of women I believe to be electrical in movement, intuitive in function , spiritual in tendency……Margaret Fuller….(1810- 1850)

“Women are repeatedly accused of taking things personally. I cannot see any other honest way of taking them”….MARYA MANNES b 1904

They talk about a woman’s sphere as though it had a limit;

There’s not a place in earth or heaven,

There’s not a task to mankind given,

There’s not a blessing or a woe,

There’s not a whispered ‘yes’ or ‘no’,

There’s not a life ,or death, or birth,

That has a feather’s weight of worth

Without a woman in it.

Above all , remember the most important thing you can take anywhere is not the Gucci handbag or the French cut jeans; its an open mind…………………..Gail Ruben Bereny

    Great, great song.

Grrrr….15 minutes it took for me to get into your blog!!! Maybe it’s the PMT!!!…LOL Yes I agree we could do with a few more Stewarts in this world…but don’t tell him I said so…don’t want any latent male ego creeping into him!

This is a Man’s World……It must be..James Brown said so…..Shemaybeweary.Young(change that to “all”)girlsthey dogetweary, wearing that same shabbydress. Butwhenshegetsweary, try a little tenderness. Said Uncle Otis. But only when/if she gets weary. Not said by Uncle Otis, but implied.
“Stand By Me”, implored Ben E. King
“I’ll Stand By You”, wailed Chrissie Hynde.
“What’s a man now? What’s “A man” mean? Is he rough or is he rugged, is he cultural and clean?”, asked Joe Jackson.
It doesn’t matter where you go or what you do. i wanna spend each moment of the day with you. Cos you started something with just one kiss. I never knew that I could be in love like this. No matter what you do - beat me up, come home drunk 6 nights a week from the pub with yer mates, spend all your wages on horses, reluctantly ration me to just enough for the household needs, sit glued to the armchair in front of the tele ‘cos you don’t know how to wash a cup or iron a shirt, do whatever you like, whenever you like, think you’re Brad Pitt, believe I believe you’re Brad Pitt, cheat me behind my back, beat me up again - I only wanna be with you. Thank you Dusty, you really did a great job for the struggle to level the imbalance, didn’t you dear?
    Oh, Yoko! What is ‘ego’?
This isn’t a comment, it’s a private ramble that happened to find its way out of my head into a place in cyberspace. So I will remain an hononary hombre. But if we do get another chance to come back after this life, I’d far rather come back as a………….

And if I could be granted one wish for myself alone, it would be to be…………well-balanced….eternally -physically, mentally, emotionally.
Where did you get the idea that I’m currently w-b’d, Auds?
All this boys vs. girls stuff, long ago became tedious to me. It’s an irrelevance. But I’ll tell you about one of my all-time favourite movies. French, maybe 30 years old. I’ve seen it twice, but not for decades and absolutely adore it, because I couldn’0t help identify withthe main character.
It’s called “L’Homme qui Aimait Les Femmes”…The Man Who Loved Women”. All women. And that was pretty much me.
What a great movie! Not to confuse with “Alfie”, which was about something else all together. Alfie was just kind of playing to his strengths to get as much as possible of what he wanted, a real sex-artist. Michael Caine’s very own Carry On movie. Brit-com? Brit-Sexism, more like!
People - I don’t know if it’s more a woman thing or a man thing, so let’s settle on the all-embracing ‘people’ - can be so darned self-indulgent. Not either of you, as I know you, but others. At the moment, it’s irritating me a lot. Like, just lie there, grovelling in the dirt you made, whimpering how weak you are, blasming everybody else, waiting to be stroked like a kitten. What is that?
When it all comes down to it, there is nothing better than likeness of mind as a basis for friendship & companionship, openness and mutual total fidelity. Gender doesn’t have anything to do with that. But add sex, and it does. Then you have the dream partnership. Shame nobody thought of telling Dusty, The Supremes, the Shirelles etc. back in 1964. If you listen to the Greatest Hits of any of those 3 now - YEAH, we all danced, didn’t we? - I guarantee you’ll squirm in embarrassment, shame, maybe disgust. That was your - and our - soundtrack. Those sweeties laying down the backdrop for how to live your lives as girlies. Different now. Girls are supposed to be like blokes, but even more so. What’s that about?
And OK, I’ll get me coat, leave without a sound & shut the door quietly behind me. SSSSSSSHhhhhh…XXXXXXX

Ah ha caught you sneaking out Stewart…that manly aftershave gave you away!

  6. Icarus says:

Essence de Kangaroo, by Pablo D. McMahon, Ruth!

  7. AUDS says:

A wonderful private ramble Stewart that had me laughing out loud, Yes!! I could read myself in there…oh dear the irony of it all..lol

I agree with when you say the boy vs girl stuff is tedious and weary, even as I wrote these quotes I thought these are not gendre specific in truth..

Different now? , personally, there are times when I sense a missing, Im sure its a lack of time thing, when I feel I lose that sense of femininity, so I know I need to go plant, gestate, tend and watch something grow again, maybe an idea or something hands on and practical, its about the ability to produce something meaningful for me or others, but again Im sure thats a people and very personal inner something thats not gendre specific either..lol

Well balanced, for me is the ability to touch, feel and know what and when to juggle, what life hands us and possess an awareness of what is essential and what is not, always equate it to sorting socks, not hanging on to the odd one just in case…and ending up with piles of useless odd socks that we dare not throw away..just in case….Over simplified I know but bah bumbug!!! Something about trusting ourselves, about our decisions and our ability to handle our own mistakes.. That Otis Reading song always gets me and bet they dont sell that aftershave in Harrabs…

  8. i love your blog, will keep looking you blog every day.
